lost battery icon

I have a laptop with Mint and a netbook with EasyPeasy (both Ubuntu origin). On the laptop I have a battery icon in the desktop task bar, but not with the Netbook. When I look in Power Preferences, Mint shows both a mains tab and a battery tab. With EasyPeasy it shows only a mains tab. How do I get the battery tab and icon with Easy Peasy?
Not Linux technical language please - I am an 83 year old with failing brain cells!!
