looking for DNS info

Alrighty, today here is what I'm looking for. A document that explains how to ad DNS lookup on my linux computer so I can #ping winbox and get the IP. I checked out tldp howto on DNS, however that was for setting up a DNS server. If anyone can point me to some documentation on this setup, it would be appreciated.

you can either add the host and ip to /etc/host(s) I'm not sure about the s, or you can configure DNS by adding it to the networking files. I believe that you can do this using #setup, for a red hat system, or editing one of the /etc/sysconfig/network files

My host uses a dynamic IP, so i can't just add his IP to the list
