I am looking to buy a new all-in-one desktop computer. I have a HP all-in-one and it is pretty much on its last legs.
What I am concerned with, is to make sure the computer is compatible with a dual load, (Windows 8 and Ubuntu).
The HP worked pretty well but I did have some issues that I never got straightened out. One problem was with the cd-rom drive not being able to read the cds I burned on Ubntu. There were other issues that I could not specifically blame on compatibility, one having to do with reading usb drives. Never was quite sure about them.
I was hoping that some of the readers might have some good suggestions to help me along.

I'm afraid, not. Noone can suggest you a perfect solution. First, you have not specified your needs. Next, every computer and every software have weak points. But definitely not the same (cd drive will probably works and usb too).

I re-read my initial post, and nowhere did I find anything about wanting a "perfect solution". I don't have to specify, "my needs". I asked if anyone had any suggestions. You, obviously do not. If you can't respond to a post with some hint of help, perhaps it would be wise not to answer the thread.

The help was the very first sentence. Your request contains insufficient info. Do not expect any kind of answer without specifying what are you going to do... You have also got some hints, especially please tell us a few words about your needs: for example: do you want to play 3d games, or calculate a lot, do you have a web server or database or whatever? Otherwise perhaps it would be wise not to answer the thread....

As for the computer I side with pan64 this is highly debatable (like what Linux to use no mater how you look at it it's all just opinions) I go for the cheapest with highest rating and power also for new users check if the hardware supports Linux well, the more home work you do the happier you will be (like buying anything...) try consumer reports and google? OP - Sorry you got piqued but he was actually trying to help by narrowing down the field. I'm afraid "all-in-one" is not very descriptive. Does this mean you include HTPC functions? Audio/Visual recording and editing? Gaming? Programming? Print server? etc etc.

I have the samsung series 7 at home. I like it. Huge screen, but very small area required. Fast as well. Downgraded to windows 7 for the fam.

Regarding CDs
As long as you burn iso images or use the iso8559 format any machine with any OpSys should read them effortlessly.

Regarding USB drives
All modern systems recognize USB drives. The only compatibility issue is the file system chosen and whether any other specific system has driver to read that file system. Linux, including Ubuntu, also has the ability to override the automatic loading and mount them where you prefer and with what access levels you enjoy.
