Hi Linux Team!

I am relatively new to Linux (although feel quite old after using MSWin for the last 10+ years... but getting younger day after day by using Linux!)

I run Slack 9.1, KDE 3.2 on AMD 2400+ machine.

The issue is the following:

When I go to "K" menu and select the "Logout" option, the program runs accordingly but at the end it doesn't take me back to the original KDE login screen under "X", but takes me to the $ prompt where I need to shutdown or login manually and "startX".

Anyway, could somebody help me with restoring the original login screen? What script do I need to modify?

open /etc/inittab as root

and change this line

# Default runlevel. (Do not set to 0 or 6)
id:3:initdefault:

to

# Default runlevel. (Do not set to 0 or 6)
id:4:initdefault:

save and exit.

Edit /etc/rc.d/rc.4 and comment out(Put a # at the beginning of the line) the gdm lines. It will make more sense when you see it.

Thanks a lot! It is unbelievable for me the support I get from the Linux community - after spending so much (wasted) time with M$.

Another question: now for some reason I get a warning screen on console Nr.2 (tty2 I guess) that there is another "X" running on another console - basically there are two "X"-s running. Where can I switch off one of those at startup?
