You can always just kill their process of which they are logged in as, like /bin/bash or any other shell. Any reason for this though in just logging out users without warning?

thanx for replying

well theproblem i am facing is that
i can kill all the associated user processes

but the entry from the utmp is not changed
when i am reading utmp it is still showing the users
i tried wtmp also

do i need to edit /var/run/utmp also?? because if the users logs out with the logout button at his side then utmp is updated

also regarding warning users
i am able to send message to specific ttys through 'write'

but can i recieve a reply from that side also?
i was thinking of displaying a GTK box at the user side whichwill help them in replying

regards
gaurav
