Plop in your Slack CD, get to the prompt where you'd normally type "setup" and instead mount up your partitions in the /mnt directory. Then edit /etc/passwd to remove the "x" near root's login:
root:
x:0:0::/root:/bin/bash
Delete that out, reboot, and root should have NO password, simply login as root, hit enter, and set a new password with:
passwd
Dropline really jacked me up as well, I ended up doing what nobody every should and reinstalled because of all the problems it caused me... course it was a while ago, I'm still bitter...
