I'm trying to setup a website that requires a user to sign in, and I'm looking for some reading material that will help me figure out what I'm doing. I'm using Apache with MySQL.
I have a MySQL database setup up with a table called user_info. I have mod_auth_mysql.so.
I know I need to do stuff to my httpd.conf (although this file seems a little strangein SuSE), and create a .htaccess file.
Anybody know of a good comprehensive tutorial on how to create this login page with apache and mysql? Thanks for any help.
The mod_auth_mysql page would seem to be a good place to start. You may need to install the module if it didn't come installed by default with your Apache.
Thx btmiller. That's exactly what I needed. I'm confused by the .htaccess though, because some sites say to use underscores in directives, and other sites say not to. ie: Auth_MySQL_Password_Table vs. AuthMySQLPasswordTable. I guess I'll try 'em both. So I've got everything setup correctly as best I can tell, how would I create a login page that takes a user to the protected directory? Know of any good websites for that?
I'm finding a lot of mention about LAMP regarding all this. Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP. I've bought a book on the subject so we'll see if it actually helps. I just wanted to post this about LAMP for anyone else doing a search on the same subject. Perhaps I'll post again if this actually gets me to where I want to go.
check my page, it has frames, and user areas that require login. I used the simple method of creating a non-user user and linking to his /~/public_html then there i used .htaccess and .htpasswd (using apache's password encryptor) and i had to change a few lines in my /etc/apache/httpd.conf file. but they seem to work ok. I also use dyndns to make a human readable name follow my dynamic ip address and ddclient to update dyndns when my ip changes
not sure what you need to setup, except for getting the program (synaptic perhaps?) but you need to set up your /etc/ddclient/ddclient.conf file according to the router you are using and the dns service you are using as well.
