localhost vs computer name vs 127.0.0.1

Hi,
New Linux user here. Having trouble with connection to Win2k server shares.
Can ping 127.0.0.1
Can ping urls
Can ping other computers on my network
Cannot ping "localhost"
possiby setup prob in network configuration

DNS TAB
"Job" is computer name
Prim DNS 166.27.165.11 myserver
Secondary DNS 166.27.165.13 myserver
Nothing in domainname box below
HOST TAB
127.0.0.1 job
166.27.165.11 myserver
166.27.165.13 myserver

I heard that you needed to have this exact text as first line in DNS TAB
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost

but I put enter that and it keeps getting changed back to
127.0.0.1 job

Would appreciate any help anyone could offer.
Thanks,
Rocko
