lm_sensors file edit

I feel as though I'm missing something obvious, but here goes anyway....:-)

I'm trying to get lm_sensors working on my Mdk 9 box, and I've installed the rpms for sensors and gkrellm OK, as well as doing the sensors-detect and adding a line to /etc/modules.conf.

The problem I'm having is that I am trying to add the modprobe entries to an /etc/rc.d/****** file, but even as root I cant open any of the rc files to add the lines. I see they've got a script icon, but in every editor I've tried, I get a blank page or a message saying file present but cannot be opened.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks

Dutch

check this

$ mount
/dev/md1 on / type ext3 (rw)

check the type and make sure it's (rw)

$ ls -l /etc/rc.d/rc.local

check file permissions

you can edit it with vi

vi /etc/rc.d/rc.local

press i to enter insert mode

add the lines you need, press esc to exit insert mode

:w

see if it writes, if you get read only error use this

:w!

:wq to write and quit

:wq! to write and quit with read only file

:q to quit

:q! to quit without save

Thanks for the reply - I think I've found out what the problem was.

For some reason I could not edit the rc.* file by doing an 'su' to root in a terminal window. I had to log out as a user and log in as root - then it edited fine.

Still, it worked ;-)
