Hi All,
I am experiencing a funny problem: as in the title, can’t boot anymore live DVD or USB pen drive on my desktop computer with 2 HDD (GPT-UEFI), one for Linux and one for Windows 10.
Can say that the last operation of mine has been installation of Mageia 6 AMD64 KDE, before that no problem to get live distro at boot (same for SystemRescueCD). Now, nothing is on the UEFI section boot list, DVD or pen drive are on legacy section (not UEFI) and don't boot (testing with DVD or pen surely good because already used before).
(Linux-Mint 18.3 Cinnamon, Debian 9 KDE, Mageia 6 KDE /dev/sdb and Windows 10 /dev/sda. /boot-efi on /dev/sdb1).
Please, do anyone know how to solve the problem?
Your information is sketchy. Show us output from bootinfoscript. Upload to https://pastebin.com/ or equivalent to give us a good idea of what is installed where and how. What is the model number of your PC?
What sounds like may have happened is that adding Mageia might have used up available space in UEFI NVRAM, displacing a generic input option for removable media. Can you boot from OM or stick if you choose the BIOS boot menu via hotkey or via BIOS setup? What are the items listed in the BIOS boot menu?
Thank you for your kind concern. Yes, I agree with you please: am pretty sure I forgot a step when installing Mageia wishing to avoid GRUB2 installation (already there with Linux-Mint, overwritten installing Debian and restored on Linux-Mint after installing Mageia).
I have been trying to boot again using Linux-Mint live DVD and the situation is the same; if I have been sketchy in my previous post I am redundant now

Boot faulty UEFI image: Debian is listed twice as you can see (Linux-Mint live DVD in and listed nowhere)
GParted /dev/sdb image
Ciao

Reason: Fixing layout
I don't recognize anything that would explain the subject.
What is
Code:
efibootmgr -v
output? It might provide a clue.
Only thing I can suggest is what I would do, first check to see if there is an available BIOS update for the PC and update if appropriate, then experiment with the device selections and boot order in UEFI BIOS setup. IME, every UEFI BIOS seems to have quirks that take time and experimentation to learn to take into account.

Check you bios settings. something probably changed. Different systems have different bios settings so can't give any real advice unless we know what the different bios settings are on your system or specs of your system so someone with similar system will be able to help.
one of the debian entries maybe mint. otherwise run update-grub from debian and boot mint from debian grub

I check for available BIOS update for the PC now. Ciao
EDIT
No BIOS update available
Another detail coming to my mind, don´t know if it is important: some days ago before installing Mageia while was installing Funtoo light gone off. Could be that the source of the problem?

Reason: Adding data
I am going to look into the BIOS now will report the result later.
No, the double Debian entry is a clue that something is wrong, Mint is listed as Ubuntu; already did the steps you suggesting me, no problem booting all OS, only live are affected. Ciao
Officially: Mageia's installation was the source of the problem.
Steps:
- Update GRUB from Mageia.
Result = only Mageia and Windows on the boot list but only Windows booting even selecting Mageia. At the same time, live DVD booting.
- Removed Mageia using Linux-Mint live DVD (GParted).
- Reinstall GRUB (on Linux-Mint).
- Cleaning boot list using efibootmanager.
SOLVED
