Listen to Live Radio
Hey,
I want to listen to the radio in my browser. I can do this in IE on windows and it works fine. However, I hate windows and IE and I use Linux and Opera. Can anyone out there listen to the radio at this site: http://www.cbc.ca/audio.html And if so, what am I missing? I will use any browser, I just want it to work. Thanks. |
my fast solution to this:
(0) get apt-get working in redhat. (1) type: apt-get install mozilla-mplayer [ i use apt-get since a few dependencies exist ] (2) extrapolate experience to other distributions. mplayer seems to handle windows media no problem, i use it for NPR (same format as link you provided), internet news video, etc. cheers, -bp |
Hi,
I installed RealPlayer for linux and it will play that site when I use Mozilla. If you install the RealPlayer9 codecs you can watch the news too! Haven't gotten Mplayer to work for me when it comes to Windows Media but then I haven't tried real hard either. |
I had RealPlayer installed but I hadn't set it up as a plugin.
For Mozilla/Firebird, copy the file /usr/lib/RealPlayer8/rpnp.so into the plugins directory of Mozilla or Firebird (e.g. /usr/lib/mozilla-1.4/plugins). I then tried listening to your radio with Firebird and it worked fine. I've just tried getting it working with Opera 7.11 and it isn't finding the RealPlayer plug-in, despite having the correct directories in the plug-in path, so maybe that's a bug in Opera. |
THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOO Much!!!
I think this was the only thing I didn't like about using linux...I couldn't listen to my CBC radio! I couldn't get it to work with mplayer like bdp said, but I got it working with RealPlayer and Firebird. However, I do have a question about Firebird. I downloaded the tar file and unpacked it, but how do I install it? Do I just run it from the directory that I downloaded it in? Thanks for the help people!! later |
No need to install Firebird. Just run the MozillaFirebird script from within the directory that you extracted it to.
