Listed on here as being linked to authedmine.com: https://hk.saowen.com/a/d4c722934b9d...0c3660880d3c8e

There is some debate on it embedded here: https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php?f=92&t=44026

Linuxtracker say that they turned it off in April: https://linuxtracker.org/index.php?page=viewnews

Personally, I wouldn't trust a site that mines, whether they ask me or not.

A website has to be paid for somehow. At the moment, it's all done by selling ads that follow you around the web. And we all know how a sinister collusion can spring up between the advertisers and the content providers, with the latter deliberately feeding you cyberjunk to keep you glued to the page so that they can charge the advertisers more for your attention.

I don't see what's intrinsically objectionable about paying for the use of a site with cpu cycles providing that it's done honestly with a warning at the site portal. After all, a lot of people donate cpu cycles to projects like SETI at Home, so how is this different?

i looked at an archive snapshot from before that:
https://web.archive.org/web/20180228...racker.org:80/
it says there at the top under News what they are doing.
imo, it wasn't prominent enough.
if there was 2 buttons to choose: ads or cryptomining? before one enters the site - that would have been nice & totally ok imo.

i have not compared the source codes of the pages (now and historical) to be able to tell if the mining is gone now or if it even ever was there (not sure how web.archive.org would work in that respect anyhow).
