Linux Workstation Connecting to Windows Print Server?
I was wondering if this is possible. My machine normally has always had a CUPS server available to map to however now that I am working in an office which has a Windows 2003 Server running as a print server. Does anyone know if it is possible to be able to map to a Windows 2003 Server printer?

samba
Is an option |
I have Samba installed on my workstation so are you saying I will need to edit my /etc/samba/smb.conf to be able to map this print server?

First of all which distri have you got installed or are you using?
For ubuntu as example go to Printer --> add a new local spool --> next choose windows share (cifs/smb) printer. That should do it. But It depends how your AD is configured. Cause if not anybody is allowed to use a printer then you can change that setting or configure your linux host to be a member of your win2003 domain. Same in redhat based os. You don't have to configure your smb.conf for that. |
