Linux with file system on Flash

Hi all,

i am trying to put Linux on a proprietary device, the problem is that boot loader just copies the kernel onto the ram and starts its execution. We have our file system as a file on flash i.e. just an .img cpio archive what contains "/" file structure. Now could any one tell me how can kernel mount that file as its file system. I tried but it seems kernel is trying to take whole of the flash and not the file.

thanks

I don't know if you are sold on a particular distrobution or not, but if I were trying this, I'd use DSL or PUPPY as the distro. These already have builds that boot and run on flash. Also, they compress the executables so that you get more applications and services on the space restricted flash.
