Linux/Windows Partition and Sharing Files

Someone told me that I should be able to "push and pull" files between the Linux and Windows side of my partitioned Hardrive. I am using SuSE 9.1 Pro. When I installed the Linux, it automatically partitioned my hardrive. I noticed that it created a swap space. Is this where the files can be shared? Do I need to use some sort of software to share files?

Right now, I can save the files that I want to use onto disk and reboot the system and reload them into the other OS. Of course, this takes a bit of time to do. I am assuming that there may be a faster way to do this, but I can't seem to find any tutorials about it on the Internet.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi
Not really sure what you mean by 'push and pull' but here are your options.

- Make a fat32 partition, you'll be able to view this partition from both windows and linux. Both windows and linux can read/write to this partiton

-Mount your windows partitions in linux, if you are using NTFS in windows you will not be able to write to windows, but no problems to read data.

-Get hold of a free tool, (i forget the name) which enables you to read/write linux partions from windows.

As for SWAP, think of it as an extension of our PC's memory, its not for your use directly.

Theres many threads about this subject, search 'mounting windows partitions' and 'editing fstab' - if you have any problems call back here.

I use a fat32 partition to share files between Windows and Linux. Altough I hardly use Windows anymore. What kinda sucks about fat32 is that it can't handle files over 4 gig. I can use Total Commander with a plugin to access my reiserFS from Windoze but it's slooow.
