Linux Standards

hi
Would someone mind explaining the situation regarding standards in linux, im a bit confused . . .
So from what i see we got (amongst the many others) the POSIX standards, the file heirachy standard and the linux standard base project , now -

How/is the file heirachy standard (FHS) related to the POSIX standard ? I see it does reference it but the link is not made clear

Which are the most acknowledged set of standards that a developer would be wise to follow ?

Are the various standards groups cross referencing each other or just all out competing ?

Thanks

just follow the posix standards, linux is made to comply with them, or if it specifically mentions linux, maybe its worth a lookie?

some of the most basic gnu tools (glibc for example) complies with almost every popular unix standard if i recall...
