hi! everyone,
well its wierd how the sound cards play in linux its even more wierd if yur card plays in someone elses system but not in yours !!!!!!
my card YAMAHA YMF-724 is not actually supported by linux but it does play cddb format cds and thats ok (really great to hear!) what it does not do is play mp3s and wavs(the sound gets cut in between)!!!!! fine i left it at that but imagine my plight when i took the same card to my friends house installed it in his system and bingo linux plays like hell on his system!!!!! everthing seems to be fine!! this ones a 32 bit sound card....
yu will ask mine as well as his sys specs
well mine is
asus-p3bf mother board
p3-500mhz
red hat -7.0
my friends is:
asus(dont know the exact spec)
amd k6-500mhz
red hat -7.0

He might have better speakers than you! No actually I never heard of that, have you tried to reinstall the card in your system? if you did, did it do the same thing? could be the motherboard, but definitley sounds it might be hardware related. That's my guess.

of course i tried that!!

i have done that already how cud it be a HW fault this is the second time i have cahnged my mother board!
and this is not one lone case many of my friends have not been able to get a yamaha ymf 724 play in linux (atlest the mp3s and wavs?)!!!!
so the situation in my last mail is beweldering!!!!!

Are you guys using the same driver? This does sound weird if you are! If you can, might want to try another sound card, see if it does the same thing. if that is possible and if you ahve an extra or anything.
