linux????
hi,
could you please help me ... i'm very interested in this question If you walk up to a linux console to log into a virtual terminal(not Xwindows). You see the prompt bart login: and when you begin typing, what program are you talking to? and what file contains the paths to the shells that have been defined for use on this system? thanks in advance best regards, albina |
The default shell on most systems is bash, a default shell for each user is defined in /etc/passwd (extrack below)
david:x:1000:1000:David Dorward,,,:/home/david:/bin/zsh |
I think she (he?) is talking about getty, login or friends. Only after the login stuff you meet the shell.
HTH, vfs. |
Yeah, getty. Pretty sure that is the answer to your question.
The path I don't know, probably what dorward said. |
