How do you make a zip file in linux?

You can use a graphical tool such as Ark, Karchiver or File Roller. You just right click on the file or directory and select compress -> compress as -> choose a filename that ends in zip. Alternatively you can use the zip command.

Why not use the zip utility? It is in all of the FC distros I have played with.

basically:

zip <file>.zip <file> [<file> <file>]

where <file> is a file or directory

man zip

'zip -h'
works as well.

personally I like tar and gz files..

yes, I would recommend Ark

I use kubuntu- to make a zip file I just right click it, and go through the compress menu.

also, in the future try to make your thread topics relate to your problem.

"Linux question" could be almost anything. An appropriate title would be something like "How to make a .zip file in Fedora Core 5"
