Linux Push eMail

I've seen a few posts on this topic in various places including here. But, they are a bit out of date.

What are the current options for servers to push email on Linux these days.

I saw Zimbra and looks pretty impressive. I was wondering if there is anything else.

Thanks

Greetingz!

By "push email" are you talking about just a centralized "mail server" (assuming your environment requires everyone to use a 3rd party email client loaded on their desktops)?
Or are you talking about something that has a web-based email client on it, too?

If it's the former, then sendmail, qmail, postfix, sSMTP, and MXM are all good "Mail Transfer Agents" (MTAs).
However, if it's the latter (web-based email client), then the first one's that come to mind are squirrelmail and horde.

Note, there's a difference between a stand-alone email server that just does SMTP/IMAP/POP3, and an actual email client (be it a local "thick" application, or a web-based email client).

Ultimately, it all depends on what kind of user-base you'll be supporting;
if it's just yourself (and maybe some friends or family), go with the small kit like postfix (lots of good guides about how to loop-in anti-virus scanning, too).

If you're going to be supporting several thousand users across multiple sites, you might want to consider a commercial-grade Email solution.
In that case, I would normally suggest Sun's Java Enterprise System, however since the Oracle buy-out, it's been renamed to Oracle Communications Suite.
Traditionally, this Suite of Sun's was free, you just had to pay for a support contract if you couldn't follow the provided documentation :)
