linux newbie question...
Hello,
I'm trying to install firestarter (firewall). After I uppack the tarball file, the instructions say to type "./configure" then "make" and finally "make install". My problem starts with "./configure" When I type this I receive the following: "checking whether make sets ${MAKE}... NO checking for working aclocal... missing checking for working autoconf... missing checking for working automake... missing checking for working autoheader... missing checking for working makeinfo... missing checking whether to enable maintainer-specific portions of Makefiles... no chekc for gnome-config... no check for gnomeConf.sh file in /usr/local/lib... not found configure: err: Could not find the gnomeConf.sh file that is generating by gnome-libs install" Any ideas?? |
It seems u are missing some library files or requried files , dunnu much about it , but check ur firwall documentation again and see if all the required libraries and files are installed already,
i belive gnome-libs-devel is the actully ur problem , check if it is installed. But i ll recomend again that double check that firewall docs and see where u are wrong. |
Your are missing a bunch of files needed to compile code.
I bet you will need to install gcc and all of its dependency's Also you will need to install make. all of those should be found on the distro cd's When you set your box up you did not put in the additional software to combile code. Now on a live server I think thats a good idea because any intruders cant compile code either but, you are going to need it to install firestarter. If you can find an rpm you do not have to worry about compiling the code or installing the above stuff. Road |
Thanks for tips, that was the problem. As far as compiling the code goes, there was an RPM for the software, but when I ran it from a command line, it went up to 100% and I dont' know what it did or if it did anything. Do the files go to a specific location?

just run "firestarter" and it will load. you obviously didn't install a single development package when you installed linux did you? not too late.. just add make, gcc and all that now.. they should each tell you what other things you need
