Linux module problem

I'm trying to get my HP Scanet 3200C scanner to work with Mandrake 9.0.It's a parallel port scanner hooked together with my Epson Printer.I've installed the PPSCSI 2.4 kernel patch and recompiled the kernel.I can insmod sg,ppdev, ppscsi successfully but not the ONSCSI module. Get an init_module no such device message.Documentation says I should use the Umax_pp Sane file for this scanner.

The printer is lp0 > parport0 address 0x378.I've tried creating /dev/scanner and linking it to parport0.I also tried /dev/sg* > no luck.
In the sane-backend-tools directory I've tried the sane-find-scanner /dev/parport0 test > it opens the parport then I get a message that it found a USB scanner but needs Vendor ID & Product ID numbers to identify it.

What files do I have to edit? Do I edit the Umax_pp file,etc/sane.d/dllconf & /etc/modules.conf files. If so what do I put in there? I have no idea what the scanner vendor & product ID numbers are.I did get a long device ID # in Windows but that hasn't helped.

Is there a command that I can use to probe parport0 that would show the devices connected to it?
dmesg:
ParportO:PC-Style at 0x378 [PcSPP,Tristate,EPP]
only read 126 of 1000 ID Bytes
faking semi-colon
Legacy device
Printer,Epson Stylus Color 600
lp0 using parport0 (polling)

/etc/modules.conf:
alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
alias autofs autofs4
probeall scsi_hostadapter Ide-scsi
alias eth0 via-rhine
alias sound-slot-o audigy
probeall usb-interface usb-uhci
alias ieee1394-controller ohci1394

With the above info > can anyone tell me:
why won't the onscsi module load?
mknod /dev/scanner is unsuccessful?

HELP!!!!

Tuzinor, I got the same error message, but with a different device.

Try this: Do the insmod again, and when it fails, look in syslog -- Mandrake Control Center -> System (I think) -> Logs. Pick syslog and select just the messages for today. Scroll down to the bottom of the log and look for error messages -- the one I got told me that my i/o address was bad, and even told me which address to use!

Good luck!

No such luck for me. The one difference I see is (via dmesg) for parport0 in a listing for Legacy device after I added the PSCSI kernel patch and recompiled the kernel. Now in Parport0 > (address 0) Legacy device
(address 1) Printer Epson Stylus Color 600
(address 2) " " " " "
(address 3) " " " " "

Legacy device was not there before I added the patch and the printer was at address0.

I'm going to have to start over anyhow so I was thinking about only having the scanner hooked up when I install again and see if that helps > then add the printer into the mix afterwords.
