Linux Lite 4.10 is ideal for replacing Windows 10

I was introduced to Linux Lite on a Video about changing from Windows 7. It is really great it has the same desktop as Windows and it has been designed that way.

I have now added the Windows 10 desktop and it is an ideal Super Windows 10.

I have made Super Windows 10 for Mint 19.2, Ubuntu 18.04, MX-19, Peppermint and now Lite 4.10 see them and how to install and set the desktops up in 5 minutes at ginamiller.co.uk.

Since Mint has decided to drop Gimp and VLC in 19.3 and has bugs I no longer think it is the best distro for beginners with Linux.

Now the ribbon goes to Linux Lite 4.10 just no problems with it usual installer like Mint. It also has the latest programs Gimp 2.10 and VLC.

I think it should be added to the main forum it really is going to overtake Linux Mint as they have taken their eye of the ball.

Sorry, must ask a question have you tried it and does it have any failings?

It's symbol is a yellow feather I suppose it means light as a feather and it will work very well on older machines so the Video said.

If it comes with GIMP & VLC, it isn't going to be very 'light'..... :D

I did take a look at it a while ago, but much prefer the lightweight distro I regularly use. ;)

P.S. Why would you want anything that looks like Windows 10(?).

What's next? SparkyLinux?

I am confused. Unless something odd has happened Mint will allow the install of both GIMP and VLC.
As above, I also wonder why one would want Linux which appears to be Windows -- if you want Windows buy it and use it.

Do not worry it has a nice XFCE terminal though it does seem to have all the apps. Glad to see you are a terminal man.

If you can get round the terminal bug you can install the old Gimp I have installed the latest Flatpak 2.10 so I have both after fixing the bug.

I think you miss the point to improve Windows users taking up Linux I make Super Windows 10 so the idea is they will save their money buying Windows 10 and the anti-virus from the companies owned by Microsoft and get free Linux that they can work out of the box.

Windows users have spent months with an infectious Microsoft the world's worst operating system they are afraid of the learning curve. With the Super Windows 10 they only have a 5 minute learning curve.

Windows 7 users are 34% of OS distros so Linux Lite is going to get a good potential market as it is a great distro and has the latest Gimp and VLC.

Needs to be added to the forums as it will overtake Mint 19.3 now it is far better.

I think you miss the point.
Windows users taking up Linux does not really help with Linux development. Copying Windows is pointless and creates problems both for those of us using Linux and seeing pathetic "windows" features wasting time and space and problems for previous Windows users who find a problem Windows knowledge cannot fix.
Linux needs more Linux users not more Windows users wanting it to be more like Windows.

Not very reasoned it's more a don't come to Linux argument. They will not have pathetic Windows features all they will have is good Linux features and wonder why they had not been told about how good Linux is.

I see give them a hard distro that will certainly encourage transition. If you leave them with infectious windows you encourage the hackers. Maybe you want Bill to make even more money?

sevendogsbsd 01-22-2020 01:41 PM

I for one would NEVER use a Linux distro that looked "just like" Windows 10 because I do not like the way Windows 10 looks. Agree with 273 - very valid points.

As I understand it Bill cashed out.
I see no reason to convince anyone to move to Linux who does not want to use Linux and learn to live with, and work around, the problems.
Windows is how it is precisely because it is meant to appeal to all. Same can be said of the sub-par OS I am typing this on.

It is a matter of putting them in front of what they think of as a Windows like desktop with the Windows wall paper then just take the wallpaper away and they find they are in Linux.

No 273 has no valid points at all.

Misleading people is stupid and bad.
Never seek to mislead or otherwise coerce people -- that just makes you deplorable.

If they're more comfortable with windows and they want to stay in that environment then they SHOULDN'T come to Linux, they're better off where they already are. And there aren't any "hard" distros, they're just different (learning Linux IS work, but it's no harder than learning windows).

That will just increase their confusion because Linux isn't windows.

If a potential user is too squeamish to accept that then we should be looking at increasing the ReactOS user base instead.

Edit: clarified ambiguity and removed irrelevant line from quote

OP is trolling - all his/her threads are like this.

jefro 01-23-2020 04:10 PM

I applaud folks who make the many distro's. I'm sure not all will survive the test of time. They however are made to be "something" for some folks. Be in claims like speed, ease, appearance or what not they are made with hard work for others to enjoy and use. Is there a bad Linux? Well, yes if it doesn't protect your data well but other than that each member on this forum has a right to try distros.

I guess if I knew a person who loved (or just barely understood) W10 and they asked me to change it, this may be a choice I guess.
