Post Linux is freezing!

Forum Friends,

I recently bought RedHat Linux (distribution 2.4.20-6) and when ever I use GNOME, the computer will stop responding but when I switch to KDE using the login screen, it never freezes. Can any of you help?

We'll need a little bit more info than that. When exactly is it freezing? When you log in? A few minutes later? With a certain application? With any application?

Also, 2.4.20-6 is the kernel version. Seperate from the RedHat version. For example I use Slackware 9.1-current with a 2.4.24 kernel. This isn't too big an issue but just FYI.

Module causes error

I have a freezing problem in Gnome too.
Whenever I load a certain module/driver for my linksys WUSB WLAN adapter, about half of the programs I try to run won't work. In fact, if I have the darn thing conected when I boot up, I can't even get into gnome at all. (OpenOffice, GnuCash, Gnome-Panel, Gaim- although Galeon is working fine.)
What good is a computer without a network?
I've only tried the stable version of the driver, but I'll look for a different one.
I haven't tried using KDE.
I tried using kernel 2.4.28-9, as I am currently running 2.4.20-8, but then I can't even compile the module correctly.

Update: Freezes with KDE as well.
My problem may not be driver related, but perhaps a conflict between gaim or galeon and openoffice, as I switched hardware (and drivers) and I still have this probelm
