linux installation

Hello

I am trying to install Centos 3.4 (it's a red hat clone) on my desktop computer but I have a problem.

I dowloaded the iso image from a centos mirror and I placed the .iso on
a cd .

I created 2 linux partitions (1 ext3 another swap) on my destop.
Then with winrawrite I created a linux bootable disk .

I started the computer with the floppy then I selected to install from cd , but the installation boot does not find the iso on the cd .

What is the problem ?

By "I placed the .iso on a cd", what exactly do you mean? If you mean that you just burnt the CD with the ISO on there as a single file, that's wrong. You need to burn the ISO as an image, so that you see all the folders and files contained in it.

In fact I had placed the iso on cd . Now I burned another cd with the image (with file and folders extracted from the iso , 680 MB) , but the installation boot from disk still don't recognize it when (after selecting language and keyboard) I select installation from cd-rom .... why ?

It could be a corrupt ISO (but it might not be). Did you check the MD5 sum before burning?

Also, how come you need a boot floppy? Is the CD you created not meant to be bootable?

All you should need to do is go into your BIOS settings and make your CD the first boot device.

I did it of course but the cd doesn't start ..

on documentation there is this procedure
http://www.centos.org/docs/3/rhel-ig...-STEPS-MAKE-CD

but these are linux commands , and I have first to install linux to execute them (!)

The CD should already be bootable after burning the ISO to it as an image. Maybe check the documentation for UltraISO or something, I don't know as I've never used it.

Nero should, I've never had a problem with it (they have a free trial version to download, if you don't want to pay for the full one).

OK I created a bootable cd with nero .

Centos started from cd (finally) ..

BUT , at the question "What type of media contains the packages to be installed" , I selected Local CD Rom ,
and I received AGAIN this message ...

The Centos cd was not found in any of your cd rom drives !!!!!!!!!!

I assure you that all files (image of iso) are there , about 680 MB !!!

Any idea ...?
