linux halt after a long time break
everyone knows that linux will enter power saving mode if you don't use it for a couple of minutes, and it will stop the monitor. but my redhat 8 is wierd, if I don't use it for a short time, like half an hour, I can get back to linux by moving the mouse, if the time is longer than an hour and a half(I think), it will halt! no matter what key I press, nothing happens, I can just see "Caps Lock" and "Scroll Lock" flashing all the time, the only thing I can do is to press the reset key on the cabinet. is this a bug?

I think it is just X-windows that is freezing. I used to run Xscreensaver with my ethernet cable unplugged and after an hour or two Xscreensaver would freeze-up. Wasn't sure what caused it but I couldn't press any key and had to resort to the good ol' reset button on my cabinet also.
But I think it's something to do with X. If I run linux in text mode It could run for 1000 years without ever freezing I would think. :) |
