Hello,
Is there a way to set up an email acct. on linux? if so, how? I'd like to have my own email address pointing to my IP with a masked DNS. Also how can I set it up on evolution and mutt?
You need a fully-qualified domain name. If not you need the services of no-ip.com or similar. Then you need to install an MTA such as postfix, exim, or sendmail. evolution and mutt are just clients.
Configuring an MTA a is huge topic on which lots has been written.
I know that mutt and evolution are just clients... I just cant figure out how to set them up with my pacbell.net email. I have a .uni.cc domain name for my website, would that work? or should I get another one
ah, well I also would like to have my own personal email that is runned from my computer, The website emails and 5 years ago net provider email address.
Okay, then yeah you need an MTA. You need to set up a domain name to point to your ip address. You can get your own FQDN or else get a free one from no-ip.com or dyndns.com set up to resolve to your ip address.
Then if you are using gentoo, emerge an MTA. I use exim myself, but I have heard postfix is good. Then your box will collect mail for you@your-domain.com
If you want more addresses you can set up an infinite amount of aliases that forward to your user account as well...
