Linux Clipboard

Ever since I have used linux I have had problems with the clipboard. I've always assumed that there is a way to fix it but it would take more effort that its worth to overcome this minor irritation. But recently I have found it more and more annoying so I set out on finding the program I assumed I was missing to solve the problem. I ran into klipper so I installed it and it seemed to be solving the problem. But soon I noticed the same old problems recurring where I would copy something but as soon as I closed the source application I lost the ability to paste. This, added to the problem of not being able to get klipper to start in gnome or when the computer boots (which turned out to be me putting in a typo of "kilpper", D'oh). It was because of this I looked into a Gnome Clipboard Manager and sure enough I found one. But I also found it is discontinued and the authors reasons for doing so.

Does anybody know if a solution for the problems this person outlined was ever found. If so can they please let me in on it. If not does anyone have a way that will allow me to use the clipboard the way it works in windows.

Switch to KDE. The clipboard works fine in KDE.

I've only swiched to gnome in the last week. I've had clipboard problems for a lot longer than that.

What exactly is the problem?

As for anyone addressing the clipboard problem, well the freedesktop.org people did publish a spec sheet of sorts on the clipboard.

I actually like Linux's clipboard much better than Windows.
