Linux Certification

Get a degree in some business major er something

OR

Get linux certification.

Degree is probably more respectable but would Linux certs do ya in good? How big of a demand is there for Admins of Linux+?

Not sure if I should attend local tech college for certs or stay for 2 years to get a degree... Goal isn't to make a awesome career and make the 'bling bling'. My goal is to help convert the world.

Just a thought while Im relaxing here in front of grandmas computer drinking 'pop' and surfin the web.

i'd do both, except i wouldn't go to tech school. i understand you're not looking for tons of money, but you'll get a better job with a BS...it's hard to say about the demand for CompTIA's Linux+ professionals, but my guess would be that it would be a plus on your resume

Yea, thats what I've been thinking BUT the price difference (certs vs. degree) is huge... jsut getting certs can be acheived over the internet (atleast most of the studies) so that save car+gas books, etc. expenses...

I guess what Im trying to figure out is, with that large gap of savings, is it really worth getting a degree after you have a few certs under your belt? I understand it will ALWAYS be better to have more under your belt but the price gap to job advantage ratio... dunno how much more you'd benifit from the leap into getting a degree.

anymore food for thought? Im on both sides. Wallet isn't.

i would say get a degree in Unix administration. Unix has the same commands as Linux doesn't it? some companies are shifting to Linux because it's cheap and it's becoming very user friendly. Bussiness is all fine and dandy but it's nowhere near as fun as Linux

if the thing is just called "certification" then it's probably not worth a hell of a lot

*edit*
yes i know that Windows Certification can get you places, something called Linux certification probably doesn't mean much to people. go for a major in Unix or Linux if it's offered at the university you plan to attend

OMG, I've never even networked (beyond dial-up), and I've just passed that brainbench.com Linux administration test...
