Linux black color has dark violet teint?

Hi LQ,

I noticed that in Ubuntu, the black color is not completely black. It has a violet teint, both in the startup screen showing the Ubuntu dots loading and in the terminal.

Does anyone know why this is so, and how to change it to completely black?

Regards,
Andreas

Is 000000 black? If not adjust your monitors, or video setup color settings.

You can also check it with
Code:
xterm -bg black -fg white
Or use aterm, rxvt, mrxvt..same syntax.

If that doesn't look black then your video color settings are off. If it is black then look for where Ubuntu is setting colors at.

The 00000 was completely black, as was the screen out your command gave me. It must be that the standard background color for the terminal and bootup screen is not set to 00000. I have seen this on every Ubuntu installation I have ever worked with.
How can I change this?

I don't know about the splash screen, but for the terminal, look in the terminal's settings. The background color option should be there.
