Linux being easier and more user friendly = BAD or GOOD?
 

mmm, just a topic that struck me recently.... everyone is saying make linux easier, make linux easier... but is it really for the greater good of the linux as a community and an operating system? I'm a newbie user myself, but i see the difference between linux and windows.
If linux becomes so user friendly or easy to use, or idiot-proof like windows, more...less capable people will start using it, thus the separation of linux users and windows users won't be so great anymore.
RIGHT NOW : linux people are knowledgeable people, they know what they're doing, they know their system, etc. by overcoming the installation and setting up stage, which requires some skills, patience and resources, they show that they're capable of using linux. Windows users range from total idiots to expert windows users, which are about ready to advance to linux.
now if linux become idiot-proof and so easy to use,
WOULD BE : what's stopping the "total idiots" from moving to linux and cluttering the community? these include lamers and flamers unseen in these boards. malwares written for linux would be more effective because of their presence. more incentive for the malware developers. there would be more of them, too. basically the ability gap between windows users and linux users would disappear or decrease.

... and stuff. sorry if i sounded offensive :) please tell me what you think.

linux as a kernel i already think is user friendly (mostly), the help in make menuconfig is great... and sides that its much simpler to set up a kernel then learn your system at the assembly level

linux as a distro should become more idiot proof, as if someone wants to do, they are welcome to (lindows?), but linux kernel and all the basic gnu program will still remain for those of us who like it our way and like to mess around and customize the heck outa something will still be able to....... this forum tho might get a lot more "HELP!, i typed 'rm -fvr /' as root like the instruction manual said, not when it boots it says it cant find init!, what is init!, i looked in the box but i don't see init in it!"

mm.... indeed that for the upper limits for functionality and customizability, the sky should be the limit, as linux right now is.... but i'm more worried about the bottom limit...... we shouldn't enter idiot-domain.
then again, very high functionaility and customizability is NOT suited for idiot-proof distros, who knows what they would do! i'm thinking the 2 don't match :S they might mess up their system, or even others' too that interact with theirs?

SciYro makes a good point. User friendly can be implemented within particular distributions, or particular desktop environments, without making the core system vulnerable to malware and loss of flexibility. MacOSX has done a good job of demonstrating this with BSD.

I think there should be only a few distro's idiot proof, they should have a good support and make there distro so that it is difficult to mess the system up. (like improving rm so you can't execute 'rm -fvr /')
