Linux as USB disk

Hi,

I have been looking for software that can put your Linux box into a "USB mode", allowing to plug it into another computer, and it showing up as a USB hard drive on the PC. Apple has such a mode on startup, making the machine a Firewire "device", and I am looking for something like that for PC. And it working on LINUX, the better.

Not knowing where to start, and not finding answers on Google or Sourceforge to do this, I'd thought of asking the experts.

Any ideas?

Thanks

You want to join two computers via a usb cable, and have one act like a hard-drive?

Isn't this just IP over USB where the server exports it's root directory... it's just that ethernet is so common there doesn't seem much point.

Yes, I want to join 2 computers via a USB cable. One, running any modern OS must be able to see the other as "USB HARD DRIVE", thus turning the second into a USB "disk". Second computer, pref running LINUX, or can be booted with a CD or something, should only be slave.

Reason: More times than not I have one computer with info on that I need to get to another with no network active. Having my laptop or UMPC (Pepper Pad 3 running FC4) act like a USB disk will solve a lot of problems.

Thanks
