Linux and HPT374

Hi Guys,
I'm sure this has been asked many times before but I have been hunting around the web for ways of doing this but have been unable to find some simple instructions on the following.
I am a Windows user looking to multiboot Windows XP and a nre linux distro, I am a linux newbie but a seasoned windows user.
I have 2x 120Gig drives in raid0 connected to my mother boards built in HPT374 controller (the motherboard is an Abit IT7Max2 v2)
I would like to be able to install a newish linux distro to multiboot along side windows xp, I would prefer to use redhat9 failing this, mandrake 9.1 or something similar, the problem is being able to install onto the raid array, I have been able to install redhat8 using the drivers from highpoints website but would prefer to use the latest offerings.
Can anyone give me advice on doing this please? nice and simple instructions if possible :)
I can install redhat9 using virtual pc within windows so I can use this to compile any drivers that I would need to? given instructions easy enough for me to follow ;)
Is it possible to compile the open source drivers from high points website into a drivers disc similar to what they have setup for using redhat8?
Any help is much appreciated

Thanks Guys

DwayneR
