Linux and ALIAS-Marshall

Hi! Just out of curiosity, how can you be a linux guru? What i mean about guru is you can do all those things that experienced linux users can do. Like they can do everything they want to do with their system. Do you have to memorize all the commands? I'm a newbie and i want to know if being able to use linux since the source code is free is really an advantage compare to windows.

And one last thing. You guys watch ALIAS? Considering money is not a problem and you really are that good in programming can linux do all those things that Marshall can do with his computer? I've heard Marshall in this particular episode where he uses gnome so i suppose he is using linux. Is everything that he is doing theoritically possible in real world or is it just tv stuff?
