link between kernel source and modules

Hello all!

How can i know, given a kernel source file, which is the module it is relative to?

my problem comes out when i type 'make module_install' compiling the kernel (2.4.31):
------------
find kernel -path '*/pcmcia/*' -name '*.o' | xargs -i -r ln -sf ../{} pcmcia
if [ -r System.map ]; then /sbin/depmod -ae -F System.map 2.4.31; fi
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.31/kernel/drivers/char/drm/sis.o
depmod: sis_malloc_R3037658e
depmod: sis_free_R454a3cf0
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.31/kernel/drivers/net/wan/wanpipe.o
depmod: lock_adapter_irq_R546498ad
depmod: unregister_wan_device_R0ebe03d1
depmod: register_wan_device_R19d80b25
depmod: wanrouter_encapsulate_R6e57e8d8
depmod: unlock_adapter_irq_Rba8f756a
depmod: wanrouter_type_trans_Rf3dd949a
------------

so, if it's possible, a good quick workaround could be to drop out(while making config)
the modules these files are relative to, couldn't it?
any suggestion about solving this problem in a "cleany" way is also well accepted!

Thanks

Bloom

Hi

I've been having similar problems.

A "make clean" usually does the trick if you've been disabled/enabled a lot of modules.

But then you need to recompile everything.
