Lindows anybody?

So far I've seen four or five "windows" Linux ripoffs. But they all tend to work a little bit. I've tried Lycoris, and it worked pretty good, except it wouldn't detect my ethernet card. I've set Mandrake up to look like Windows, and it's pretty good. But does anybody know anything about Lindows? I know that it runs off of the Debian distro, but how does it work? Is it fast, what programs are good? Basicilly, compared to other Linux distro's, how is it?

I haven't run Lindows and never will. The source code is not available and you have to pay. Mind you I don't mind paying for Red Hat, SuSE, of Slackware, but Lindows is like Microsoft.

Lots of reviews for Lindows linked to from here:
http://www.distrowatch.com/table.php...bution=lindows

Lindows is only like Microsoft in the sense of there being no free download availible. This is by no means unique as Linux distros go.

As for the source code, all code for GPLed software used in Lindows is availible to Lindows customers, as is required by the GPL. Code excusive to Lindows as well as 3rd party code is not provided, and they are not required to as they are not licenced under the terms of the GPL.

Lindows is like Microsoft in that you have to pay for everything and anything.

What other distros don't offer a free download? None of the major ones are that way.

You're right, they don't have to release source code for non-GPL'ed software. But they don't give back to the Linux community like Red Hat, Debian, etc. They're just a cheap commercial trick.
