I have a (remote) RedHat 7.2 system I inherited that uses LILO.
I like to convert it to use GRUB (primarily so kernel RPM updates can go a bit smoother for a new admin).
Can anyone tell me how to achive the conversion? Apparently,
grub-install --root-directory=/boot '(hd0,0)'
was not persuasive enough. I'm guessing some mbr fiddling is needed since
dd if=/dev/hda count=1 |strings
still shows LILO. Comments, how-to, ?
Thanks
thanks, tried that but I still see LILO in the 'dd' output -
# grub-install /dev/hda1
Installation finished. No error reported.
This is the contents of the device map /boot/grub/device.map.
Check if this is correct or not. If any of the lines is incorrect,
fix it and re-run the script `grub-install'.
# this device map was generated by anaconda
(fd0) /dev/fd0
(hd0) /dev/hda
# dd if=/dev/hda count=1 |strings

since this is a -remote- box...I have limited ways to "see" things.
that may have worked! at least GRUB now shows up in the 'dd' output. Now I have to find a way to reboot with a monitor and some body watching. Thanks!
