Lilo Problem

Hi Guys,

I installed ubuntu on my Desktop and for a change i installed lilo.

I have a Win 98 and Beos on my machine and grub just worked fine with this config.

lilo is fine with the partitions, which have windows and BeOS but it has not created bootmessage file in my /boot folder which will allow me to do a dual boot.

" message=/boot/bootmess.txt "

any suggestion on how to create this

I'm not sure I understand your question correctly, but most system messages are written to the /var/log directory (eg /var/log/boot.msg and /var/log/messages)

I don't think you want to create files in the /boot directory, particularly if you have partitioned your system so that /boot is a separate partition. (Making /boot a separate partition is useful for security purposes)

If you are simply trying to add another option to your boot menu, then keep in mind that you need to rerun the lilo program after you make any edits to the lilo.conf file. Specifically, as root, run
Code:
/sbin/lilo
after you save your changes. HTH -- J.W.

I am sorry i guess i was not clear in my question.

If you check lilo.conf file, you have a line which would say something like following

message=/boot/bootmess.txt

which means it pop this message at boot time i guess and which will have graphics selection options, see i am sure whether this message is for that or not. I am just guessing that.

But my question was that, I have a folder /boot but i dont have bootmess.txt or any txt file for that matter. So how do i create one and what is the use of this bootmess.txt.
