I recently deleted my Linux partitions.:tisk: All was going good (shut down and resterted several times) untill I started installing a new sound card. Long story short when I went to restart I got the LIL- error code. Pulled out the card at first before I knew what the code was... Found out what it means and now am trying to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.:) Thanks.

Remove for now. Reinstall later.

You can restore the windows mbr with "fdisk/mbr" in dos.

Be wary of this, though. It will only work if you only installed Linux the once.

With this example, doing an fdisk /mbr will restore:

Installed Windows (or comp came with it).
Install Linux.
Uninstall Linux.

In this example, doing an fdisk /mbr will not restore it:

Installed Windows (or comp came with it).
Install Linux.
..fiddle & cock-up...
Re-install Linux.
Uninstall Linux.

Basically, when the MBR is overwritten, a copy of the last one is kept. When you do an fdisk /mbr it replaces the current one with the copy...but in the 2nd example both the current one and the copy contain LiLo so it wouldn't be effective.

If all else fails, you can try XOSL to get things going.

Ok. I'll try XOSL. But I can't figure out how to get to dos. It just comes up with the LIL- and I can't enter anything.

A Windows boot floppy? Obviously you'll also have to set your BIOS to boot from the floppy before the harddisk, if it's not already setup like that.

Well anyway, I booted off the XP cdrom and went to the recovery console and ran fixmbr... In the process of reinstalling windows now, Linux later. Thanks everyone.:Pengy:
