Hi again,

Lets say i install linux on hda and xp on hdb. Does lilo gives and option to boot xp or do i have to configure the lilo.conf?
Some more questions: Where is the lilo.conf??
What do i ad to the lilo.conf ??
Something like this??

# WinXP
label=WindowsXP
root=/dev/hdb
read-only

Thanks

Hi crack_x

Yes - you can configure LILO to boot XP if it hasnt already configured fully

Lilo.conf is always in your /etc directory

You'd typically open it with an editor from the command line like

su
root password

kedit /etc/lilo.conf

Try adding this at the bottom of your lilo.conf file - make sure you substitute in the correct partition that XP is on - Ive just put in /dev/hdb1 as an example.

Remember to get rid of the current other= block of code aswell

other = /dev/hdb1
label = win
table = /dev/hda

Once youve put it in and saved it then

As root user again type

/sbin/lilo

One more thing - personally I would have :

Installed XP on /dev/hda First - then

Linux on /dev/hdb Second.

sorry for the... ignorance... but... let's say that i have windows on drive C: , and one more drive for data (D:) that i would split for 2 - one stay as data drive and other will be linux (let's say data stay as D: and linux will be G: )
so...
windows = C:
DATA = D:
Linux = G:

now... in linux you see it in a different way... like
/dev/hda
/dev/hdb

how can i know which one is the same one, for example D: on windows?
THX

I put a text file in each Windows drive letter with "Windows calls this G" or whatever Windows decides to call it..
