Question Lilo

Hi ,

Its been quite a while since i've been here last..........

Face a very weird problem.

Have got win 2000 advanced server running on my system. Every thing here works fine.

Lately downloaded & installed Mandy 9.0 on the system with its own partition, which is 10 Gb. All that is installed with Mandy works fine here too.(sound, display etc.)

Loved the Lilo boot loaded so i stuck with it by creating a 200Mb boot partition & setting it as active using Fdisk for Lilo to reside on.

This works very well for loading Mandy. When i use it to load windows verything works(windows loads & all) ,,,,,,, except that after i reboot/shutdown the system the only thing loads is windows & there is no sign of Lilo.
On checking the harddrive the windows partition is somehow set active again.

As long as i boot to Mandy,reboot/shutdown the system Lilo works, But each time i boot to windows the problem occurs & then i need to manually change the active partition on the harddrive for having Lilo to boot again. Have tried reinstalling Lilo in text & graphical modes which produce the same results.

System info :

Hp kayak workstation.
Pentium II 333Mhz.
512Mb Memory.

Hdd info : Samgung 40Gb

10 Gb Windows(Fat32)
5Gb Windows(NTFS)
10Gb / (ext3)
1Gb swap
200Mb /boot (ext3)

The rest is free/unused.

The windows & /boot partition are set as primary partitions & the rest as extended.

This does not pose a serious problem as i use Mandy most of the time. However pls let me know in case any of you guys know what could be the problem.

Windows 2000 server is overwriting your master boot record.

Try switching to grub as the bootloader. I think there's a bootloader file which you can edit to overcome the problem in Windows, but I don't know what it is - boot.ini ?

Install LILO on MBR ....

The only way you can have that LILO to be your default Boot Loader is to install it on MBR...

There is an option while installing Manrdake Linux to install the LILO on the MBR .. Choose that.. ..

You must have chosen to install LILO on the First sector of the Boot Partion....

Change it ... and hope it works ..
