libXext...

Hi
checking for libXext... no
configure: error: We need a working libXext to proceed. Since configure
can't find it itself, we stop here assuming that make wouldn't find
them either.

Hi, I was just trying to compile one program that uses X11 and I got stock on ./configure...with an error above. I checked on my system for libXext and I found :
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.so.6.4
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.so
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.so.6
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.a
What should I do /?
Thank you.
Jakub.

Check this out:

The part that you are going to be interested in is in pages 2 & 3. It details tha authors problems with installing Kde and what he did to get around it.

But the gist of it that you probably need to upgrade your Xfree86 files.

I don't think that you are experiencing the same problem, but in any case, what's wrong with your XF86Config? (or monitor for that matter)

this website u said did not really help, i did not get how to do XF86Setup, and it said something about the monitor stuff.. nothing is wrong with my monitor, i don't quite get wut the person in this website is saying, but yes i have the same problem, i am trying to get my KDE3.1 working, and whenever i want to compile something it says
checking for libXext... no
configure: error: We need a working libXext to proceed. Since configure
can't find it itself, we stop here assuming that make wouldn't find
them either.

when i do ./configure
my qt-3.1.1 is not working either, i think it might be the qt which is causing the problem, im not sure

Well, the one site that mentioned anything at all about the

"configure: error: We need a working libXext to proceed. Since configure..."

error explained how it was an out of date Xfree86 installation that caused the other programs not to compile.

Here is the google search string that I used:

http://www.google.com/linux?hl=en&lr...+libXext+to%22

And there does appear to be another entry that I missed about the Xfree86-devel packages. Check it out.
