libusb usage / HP3570c scanner

OK,

The HP 3500 series scanners are NOT supported (yet) under Sane, but someone has been nice enough to write this working demo for it. The problem is, the demo says that it uses libusb, but when I run the demo it tells me that no scanner is found.

This is my first attempt at using this scanner under linux. I am running the 2.6.1 kernel. I searched the forum and found mention that in order to use libusb for devices you need to have a line in your fstab that looks like this:

usb /proc/bus/usb usbfs defaults 0 0

but when I add this line, dmesg tells me that /proc/bus/usb is already mounted. So, how do I actually use libusb to connect to my scanner? Am I missing a step?

Any ideas?
