Why are you running those user commands as root (su) ?
Root is for administrative tasks only.

Solution : Probably # yum install kernel-devel
'kernel-devel-2.6.18-8.el5' is the oldest version.
And differs from your Žuname -rŽ version.

'kernel-devel' provides /usr/src/kernels/2.6.18-<version>/
.. and the 'build' link in /lib/modules/Žuname -rŽ/
must point to /usr/src/kernels/2.6.18-<version>/
( The install of the proper version will take care of that.)
..

Latest is : 2.6.18-194.
..
