Laptop kernel recompile, attempt #2. Guru advise needed please..
I am making a second attempt to recompile my 2.4.20-9 kernel to include acpi support, as well as the modules for my netgear prism2 card and my conexant Linmodem. My questions are...
1) It was recomended to me that I get the kernel from redhat, so I wouldn't lose RedHat specific drivers, so I did. The kernel is in two files kernel-2.4.20-9.source.rpm kernel-2.4.20-9.rpm Question: How do I recompile an RPM based kernel package, or are these rpms only going to dump the needed files for me to compile? Question #2: Which RPM to use?? Thanks :study:  |
if you want to compile the source, install the .src.rpm, if you want the kernel binary, without compiling anything, install the .rpm.
|
Thanks, that is exactly the answer I needed.
Only one more question.. As I have a couple patches to install, ie ACPI etc, at what point in the make process does patching take place? The last time I tried compiling, I didn't have patches, just different options.. |
you patch the kernel source before even configuring the options.
