Laptop Help

Hi,

Can anybody give me some advice?

I have just brought a Sony Vaio Laptop spec as follows

AMD Athlon XP 1400
256MB SDRAM
20GB Hardrive
ATI 3D Rage Mobility M1 Graphics Chip 8MB

The Laptop came pre-installed with Windows XP Home edition with a lot of Sony pre-installed software. Windows has crash half a dozen times since a brought it (less than a week ago)

I dappled with Linux off and on for about a year now only on desktops with various results.

Could anybody tell me based on the laptop spec which Distro would be best suited to me. I would like to use it mainly for multimedia (Music, Videos, Digital Photos) No games.

I have tried RH 8.0 on my desktop and even though I liked it, I had problems with watching DVD’s, configuring my Digital Camera (which I never got working).

I am swaying towards SuSE 8.1, which is on offer at Amazon at the moment.

One last question, is there anyway I can get a refund from Microsoft for the version of windows pre-installed?

Any advice is very much appreciated

Thanks

Nothingman

I'd vote Mandrake. Can usually detect most hardware that is supported and install it for you during the initial install. Its very newbie friendly or can be very advanced as well. Can't hurt anything but to try really, you decide to go ahead and install any distro though and run into a problem, I'm sure someone here can help you if you just ask..
