laptop cooling fan doesnt like me
hello there!
i have a dell inspiron 4000 laptop, on which im running redhat linux 8. everything is running properly, but the cooling fan toward the back doesnt seem to want to kick on. i know its not broken, or shouldnt be, because it worked up until i installed linux. is it just a freak coincidence? or is there some way to fix this? (i thought i read something similar to this a while ago, where they talked about a power management feature you have to configure, but i couldnt find the thread.. so i may just be delusional, with a case of bad luck, but i dunno..) any help would be awesome! thx --i |
Play with apm/acpi ...whichever the machine
currently uses, switch to the other ... also check whether there are BIOS upgrades for the box available, I've seen issues with Compughs and Dells in this respect. Cheers, Tink |
I have the same problem with an old laptop, unfortunately, I have yet to find a solution.
I have gone through the "apm" man page, and unless I am missing something, I can't find anything in there that will control anything other than system standby. |
