Konqueror fails when USB Flash active
Disclaimer ... I'm new to this and still learning in Linux "School of Hard Knocks". I've been generally doing OK, but I've hit the wall with this one...
I'm running Mandrake 10.1 Official on a Pentium III system. It's old, but amazingly stable, even running Windows!
My problem: When I plug in a USB flash drive, Konqueror will no longer start. If I open Konqueror before I plug in the USB flash, everything is fine. I can open the flash, and copy/move files as intended. But if I close Konqueror, it's gone. The desktop icons for the other removable storage drives (CD-RW and CD-DVD) disappear after I plug in the flash, too.
Sometimes it comes back after a re-boot, sometimes not.
Any suggestions anyone?
Thanks,
TimothyK

Well, you could try opening it from a terminal window to see if any error messages are printed:
Code:
$ kfmclient openProfile filemanagement
is what works for me. (With no error messages.)
I don't know if this will work, but without any error messages its hard to do anything.
Um: Perhaps there's a log file (usually in /var/logs/) you could check.

You may need to simply update KDE and it's base components. I've had problems with Konqueror before and I'd have to say that most could be resolved with updating to the most recent package.
SuSE uses YaST. I think I've read places that Mandrake uses yum?
Maybe reinstall the base packages or upgrade?
Just a thought.

I did try starting Konqueror from a terminal window, but that too just hangs. No error messages, nothing.
So I took the coward's way out and installed Suse 9.1 instead. Works just fine now.
I expect I'll get back to this when I'm a little more savvy about Linux.
Thanks to those who replied.
