Question Keymap problems in slack8

Hi. Just found this excelent forum.

I have a bit of trouble with the keymaps in slack8. I can't get the swedish caracters 'å','ä','ö' to work. As usual I load the fi-latin1 keyboardmap during setup, and when tested the keys work all thru setup.
When I reboot and get to the logon screen, I still have 'å','ä','ö' but I can't delete or user backspace. After login the 'å','ä','ö' can't be accessed but the delete key and backspace key works as they should. The 'ö'(next to the right of L) and 'å' keys(next to the right of P) give a system beep but the 'ä' key doesn't make a sound.

This is verry confusing. If I load a us keybordmap, the keys work as thay are suposed to(brackets and so on) but they dont work with the fi-latin1 map.

I have updated kbd to version 1.0.6

I cant help with one...I've only ever had to set up a us kerboard...but I can point you towards the forums at linuxpackages.net (formaly linuxmafia.com), a site that specialises in slack packages that has taken up some of the slack (hehehe) from the closed slackware.com forums, you might be able to get an answer there.

I've found a solution to my problem.

You create a file named ".inputrc" in your home directory, witch will contain the following lines:

>set meta-flag on
>set convert-meta off
>set output-meta on

The problem is with the default slacks readline package. Only affexts some keymaps though, don't know why.

Maybe because nobody who has tried to set up a swedish keyboard in slackware has bothered to submit the info to slackware.com?.......or........maybe your the first swede to do it!!!!!......maybe not, but you should commit the steps you took to get it done to posterity

It has allready been commited to them, but if you install from the slack8 CD, the problem is there. If you install from the net or someplce else the problem has been fixed.
