keyboard prefs not re-written in xorg

HI

I am trying to change the keyboard preference thru gnome keyboard preferences manager but it appears to not be changing this in Xorg.conf . What I initally am trying to setup is generic 105 (intl) and the Us-Intl layout however it appears to be the later I cannot change.

This is the part of the Xorg.conf

Quote:
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Generic Keyboard"
Driver "keyboard"
Option "CoreKeyboard"
Option "XkbRules" "xorg"
Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
Option "XkbLayout" "gb"
EndSection
It is gb that should be altered isn't it?? I need us intl. I currently have no hash key £ I keep geting that pound sign instead even though keyboard prefs shows I shouldn't.

Do I need to change the base language from British to US to do this? If so how? It's just such a simple thing that its annoying.

Oh I am running debian etch.

Just edit xorg.conf
Code:
       Option "XkbLayout" "us"
I think Gnome's configuration is separate from xorg's. At least every so often, I get a message that says Gnome's configuration differs from Xserver's. Which one do I want to use. I always say, 'Use Xserver and leave me alone.'
